AFC Cleveland is proud to be a part of the dedication ceremony of a new sports facility in the community, sponsored by The Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in collaboration with United Arab Emirates is donating a gift to the City of Cleveland within the Glenville Community on May 19th. The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Elementary School of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District was hand selected in 2016 by representatives of both the UAE and US Embassy as the spot to best utilize a brand-new right-sized sports facility. The Cleveland Clinic, UAE, and Northern Ohio businesses have formed a partnership to give back to the community in which it serves and decided the facility could be used for soccer as well as additional sports and exercise events. The primary groups with access to the new facility includes Cleveland’s youth, The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Cleveland, City of Cleveland’s Glenville Recreation Center, and the AmericaScores after-school program.
AFC Cleveland President/CEO Terry Lawriw jumped at the opportunity to assist in the opening events for the facility, “As a club dedicated to partnering with our communities, we saw this as a natural opportunity to support the Glenville community” said Lawriw. The Royals will contribute to the cause with appearances to help the kids run drills on the field prior to the dedication ceremony.
The dedication event will be held on the Glenville Community Soccer Field at 800 Linn Drive at 9:30 a.m. on May 19th. Ambassador of the UAE to the United States Yousef al Otaiba, Cleveland Clinic President and CEO Toby Cosgrove, Superintendent Eric Gordon, and Principal Sherie Turner are all expected to be present to see the opening of the facility.
As part of AFC Cleveland’s commitment to the Greater Cleveland community and as advocates for the sport of soccer, the club welcomes events such as player appearances, memorabilia donations, fundraisers, and more.
