Two pivotal pieces of the AFC Cleveland 2016 squad are returning. The two most recent players to declare their vow to continue a championship core are University of Akron products, Defender David Jordan and Midfielder Skye Harter. The 2017 campaign will be the second with the Royals for each player.
The tenured veteran out of Mentor, Ohio, David Jordan continues his great run with the squad. David was a real asset down the stretch last years with his gritty defense and precision corner kicks, probably the most memorable was the equalizer in the NPSL Championship victory. David converted from the PASL indoor league where he played for the now dissolved Cleveland Freeze. Now that he is outdoors once again, David, who turns thirty-one this May, is ready to build on his six starts from a year ago. Despite recently adding a new addition to the family, a baby boy, David explains why it’s so important to be back again this year, “Playing in front of the hometown fans is the best, they come to pump you up.” David gets excited about the fans being there for the team again this year, “Smoke bombs, horns, drums, all this makes you smile and do better, the soul of the organization is our fans.”
Midfielder Skye Harter of Copley, OH is returning with a history of efficient play. Skye managed three goals and three assists in just five appearances for the club during the 2016 regular season. Previous to Akron, Skye played on the national level in the U.S. Development Academy for Internationals SC, paving the way for his experience to lead him to the All-Ohio First Team honor for Copley High School. Skye, 20 years of age, continues to perform on the collegiate level for the Zips as he currently is majoring in Business.
The defending champions now have a majority of their starters returning from the starting XI that made the magical run through the playoffs in 2016. David and Skye are ready to see the fans again this season and you can get tickets now at afccleveland.com/tickets
