AFC Cleveland Signs Preston Spurrier for 2013 Season

Preston, younger brother of former Royal, Vaughn Spurrier, hails from Mount Vernon Nazarene University where the Cougars held a 11-6-4 record with freshman Spurrier commanding the midfield. He started 13 of 21 games and provided 3 goals and 2 assists in his first year.

The 6’1″ attacking midfielder notably returns to Cleveland as a component of the back-to-back 2010 (National Champions) and 2011 state championshions, St. Ignatius Wildcats. Preston is another addition in the Royals focus in adding size to the 2013 squad, bringing a tall, athletic presence to the midfield at a position that will pose problems for opposing defenses.

Andy Hoggarth, Head Coach, “Preston trained with us last season and always performed well in practice. I feel as though he can continue to develop with us and will provide good competition for a spot in the midfield.

David Schmac, Player Personnel, “He brings a different presence to the midfield than we’re used to having. We’re looking to keep the other teams on their heels with our roster flexibility this season and with his size and drive, he’ll be an asset.
