AFC Cleveland would like to announce the signing of goalkeeper, Alex Ivanov, from The Ohio State University. Alex comes to the Royals from Strongsville, Ohio, where he took on the role of captain of the 4-time state regional champions, the Strongsville Mustangs. The 6’2″ net-minder graduated from Strongsville High holding school various all-time goalkeeping and team records, along with numerous academic accolades. His playing history also includes years with the Cleveland Whitecaps and Cleveland United.
The Buckeyes decided to redshirt Alex his freshman season at Ohio State. He shared time in 2012 between the pipes through a season that featured a 6-10-3 record in a difficult Big Ten conference. Back for 2013, Ivanov has been the primary call in goal during the Buckeyes’ spring schedule, leaving him prepared for his first season in the NPSL with AFC Cleveland.
Andy Hoggarth, Head Coach, “Alex is the type of player we aim to bring to this team. He’s a skilled athlete with great character. We had a chance to see him the last few months and he definitely shows a lot of potential in his play.
David Schmac, Director of Player Personnel, “I think the selling point wasn’t just his play, or his coaches and their positive words, but the peers he’s played with for years. All they could do was compliment his abilities and his progression. We’re excited to watch him grow and succeed within the Royals and Buckeyes systems.
