AFC Cleveland Signs Ty Smith for 2013 Season

AFC Cleveland announces its 3rd new signing, Tynan “Ty” Smith, out of Hiram University. The 6’2″ defensive midfielder is another extension to the Royals roster representing a club with added size and physique. Smith also adds attacking prowess, having provided Hiram with additional offense from a defensive position in its last 2 seasons.
On the pitch with Hiram and at the most recent tryouts, he showed the technique and relentlessness at his position that will be an immediate contribution to the Royals Championship defense. From Rocky River, OH, Ty was a part of the St. Ignatius championship dynasty that brought home a 2008 State Championship with a handful of other Royals currently rostered. Having attended Slippery Rock, Smith transferred to Hiram University, playing a key role in its high-ranking defense, allowing just 1.14 goals per game with 5 shutouts with Smith on the pitch.

Andy Hoggarth, Head Coach, “I’m looking forward to having Ty as part of the group. From seeing him in the tryouts, he showed to possess sound technical ability and a good work ethic. Everyone I have spoken to about Ty has only had good things to say.”

David Schmac, Director of Player Personnel, “We’re real excited to have Ty join the Royals. He really gelled with some of the guys we had at the tryouts and showed the ability to alter his game as needed with practically no wrinkle. I always emphasize character in our players, and Ty not only brings a strong skill-set, but will provide great attitude to the locker room.”
